WEEE Regulations

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is now UK law. The legislation aims to make producers pay for the collection, treatment and recovery of waste electrical equipment. The regulations also mean that suppliers of equipment like high street shops and internet retailers must allow consumers to return their waste equipment free of charge.

The amount of WEEE we throw away is increasing by around 5% each year, making it the fastest growing waste stream in the UK.

  • Much of the the UK's WEEE ends up in landfil, where the lead and other toxins it contains can cause soil and water contamination. This can have a harmful effect on natural habitat, wildlife and also human health
  • Many Electrical items that we throw away can be repaired or recycled. Recycling items helps to save our natural finite resources and also reduces the environmental and health risks associated with sending electrical goods to landfill.

Distributors of new Electric and Electronic Equipment (EEE) have a part to play in reducing the amount of WEEE going in to landfill sites.

Hooters Musical Instruments (www.hootersmusicalinstruments.co.uk) is obliged under these regulations to offer our customers free take-back of their WEEE on a like-for-like basis when they buy a new Electrical or Electronic product from us.

For example, if a customer bought a new Guitar or amp or any other electronic instrument from us, we would accept their old Guitar or amp or any other electronic instrument and prevent it going into a landfill site by disposing of it safely. Customers must return their WEEE item to us within 28 days of purchasing their new item.

Under the WEEE Regulations, all new electronic goods should now be marked with the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol shown below:

Goods are marked with this symbol to show that they were produced after 13th August 2005, and should be disposed of separately from normal household waste so that they can be recycled

Terms and Conditions

Statutory Rights

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions shall affect your statutory rights under the law of England.

Payment

You can pay for your purchases either by credit or debit card. Credit accounts are normally only given to regular customers who represent companies and institutions such as schools and colleges.  For details, please e-mail or telephone us.

If you choose to pay by credit card then the details of your card number will be securely encrypted before they are transmitted over the Internet or stored on our computers. This makes your card details completely undecipherable by anyone except us. And as soon as the order has been processed, your card details are automatically deleted from our computer.

Unlike some websites, when you submit your order to Hooters Musical Instruments we do not immediately charge your card while you are still online.  Your order is first checked over carefully (by a human being, not a computer) and only when we are satisfied that we can fulfil your order promptly and accurately with no unexpected increase in the prices will we charge anything at all to your card.

Title to Goods

Hooters Musical Instruments retains full title to all goods supplied until paid for in full.  In the event of the customer's insolvency Hooters Musical Instruments reserves the right to reclaim goods for which full payment has not been made.

VAT and other taxes

All prices are shown including VAT where applicable. Books and sheet music are zero-rated for VAT in the UK; most other items are rated at 15% (from 1st December 2008). Where VAT is applicable, it is shown in our website catalogues at UK rates even if you have registered as a non-UK customer.   We are required by law to collect VAT at UK rates on orders despatched to countries within the European Union.

Delivery and Carriage

We will deliver your goods within a couple of days if in stock, or normally within one week if not.  If you need delivery by a certain time please state this on your order and we will let you know if we are unable to accept your order on this basis.  If we have not delivered your order within one week please contact us: we will then either arrange another time for delivery or, if we have already debited your credit card, we will offer you a refund.

Prices

The prices published on Hooters Musical Instruments' website apply only to orders placed over the Internet.  Do not expect to see the same prices if you visit our retail shop!

With such a large catalogue of items in our database it is inevitable that from time to time there will be errors in pricing caused either by our mistake or by errors in the data sent to us by manufacturers and publishers.  If this means that your order would cost more than anticipated we will check with you by email before processing your order.  If the price increase is small, we may at our discretion decide to absorb the increase ourselves.

Returns and Cancellation

If the goods you receive are faulty please return them to us in their original condition within 10 days and we will either repair or replace them, or refund the cost of the goods. If the goods you receive are not what you ordered, please return them to us in their original condition within 10 days and we will either replace them with the goods you ordered, or refund the cost of the goods and carriage. However there are a few unavoidable exceptions to this, as follows:

Sealed audio or video recordings and computer software cannot be returned unless returned still sealed.
For reasons of hygiene we cannot accept returns of reeds, mouthpieces, microphones, wind and brass instruments and other similar items, unless returned unopened in their original packaging.
Strings must still be as new, in their original envelopes, and must not have been wound onto an instrument.
Digital pianos and electronic keyboards, amplifiers and all electronic products can normally only be returned if they have not been removed from their original packaging and/or assembled, since assembly and disassembly makes these items very obviously "used".

Please call us before returning any goods.

If you choose to return any goods you must ensure that the goods are properly packaged and sent at your cost by a secure carrier: it is your responsibility to take reasonable care to ensure that they reach us undamaged. If you do not pay for the cost of return then we may deduct the cost of retrieving the goods from any refund due to you in respect of the order. We recommend that you use a recorded delivery service for all returns.

If a refund is due to you it will be made expeditiously and within 30 days.

Non-delivery of goods

If your goods are not delivered to you within 14 days of the despatch date you must notify us immediately, otherwise we cannot accept responsibility for the lost goods.  You will be notified of the despatch date by e-mail shortly after we have received your order.

Damage in transit

Any claim arising from damage in transit must be made to Hooters Musical Instruments within 5 days of receipt of the goods.  Please check the cases and contents immediately upon receipt, and before signing for them.  Goods seen to be damaged should be signed "Damaged in transit" and packaging materials should be preserved for inspection. Damaged goods must be reported within 5 days of delivery otherwise Hooters Musical Instruments cannot accept responsibility.

That is because the only reason we will e-mail you is in connection with an order. We will not send you any e-mail for any other reason. ROBERTSON PIANOLA FAIR USE WARRANTY

The Robertson Pianola is a precision musical instrument with cutting edge technology at its core. It has been designed for use primarily in a home/domestic environment, and as such is subject to our 'fair-use' warranty.

Should you purchase this product to enjoy in a commercial environment (eg: restaurants /bars /hotels etc), then the subsequent prolonged usage of the 'self-playing' mechanism will inevitably cause premature ware and tear on some key components of the piano - unfortunately in these circumstances, such repairs fall outside the definitions of 'fair-use' and are therefore not covered under the standard warranty offered.

If you are buying this product for use in a commercial environment , we are pleased to offer a comprehensive after-sales repair and maintenance service (chargeable) by our fully trained technicians. To keep the instrument operating at its fullest potential, we recommend that you have the Robertson Pianola serviced annually. Please note that the charge for this service is calculated on a 'per-customer' basis.
